2005 GCL AWD front wheel speed sensor/bearings

The left front wheel speed sensor on my 2005 is throwing a U1417 code intermittently. Lights up the service 4WD and Service ABS system dashboard icons. These typically clear after a few start cycles. I have noticed that it seems to reoccur now more often after it rains. Could be coincidence, maybe not.

In the process of looking for speed sensors I was wondering if it makes more sense to go all out and replace the entire hub assembly units. I noticed the Timkens are around $140 per side (on the auction site) and include the hub, bearing, and new speed sensor and cable. I have 133,000 miles on the original front end bearings. Looking for some comments on whether it makes sense to go with the Timken units or just replace the speed sensor. What's the typical lifecycle of front wheel bearings on the WK?

Comments appreciated, thanks

Replaced both front hub bearings and sensors with new Timken assemblies along with the rear wheel speed sensor. Hopefully this solves the intermittent service abs/service 4wd system codes.

Did that fix the dash lights? I replaced my hubs this weekend but one of them was seized to the axle so I had to leave it on until I can get a shop to do it. In the process I took the speed sensor cable off the hub, I put it back on but I'm getting the service 4wd and electrical brake lights along with the ABS and traction control light.

Re: 2005 GCL AWD front wheel speed sensor/bearings

All the codes pulled indicated wheel speed sensor issues on both the front and rear left side. Initially I was just going to replace the wheel speed sensors front and rear, but with 133k of use on the front bearings, just decided to replace both of the front axle bearing/hubs/sensor units.
The left rear got just a new speed sensor.

Two days now and no codes, no dash warning icons, time will tell.
