Re: 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited Problems Help!!!

OK, I finally got my jeep back from the Jeep dealership, they stated that they did not find any codes, they wanted $500.00 dollars to do a tear down of the vehicle, witch I had to decline. I took the Cherokee over to the local Auto Zone and had them test the battery, they stated that it was good. So now I will start checking grounds.

If the PCM and or the BCM were causing the problems, would the diagnostic the dealer ran pick this up?

Thanks for all of your replies/posts. I will keep you all posted as soon as I figure out what is causing this.

The 5-cent answer is YES, provided a DTC is generated. Intermittent issues are the problems because they do not necessarily generate a DTC and generally are not showing symptoms at the dealership.

Slapping the StarScan on your machine will provide some or no answers without guarantee of any return for your $100.

Re: 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited Problems Help!!!

the bcm lost power look for a problem were the door opens there is a boot there that holds all the wires Seen this many times in WJs and WKs There is a break in one of the wires
Mine end up a broken ground wire I repaired the wire and my windows locks horn and in side lights all came back Your problems sounds like this might be your problem It just to bad that the dealership had some hacks working there All they wanted was 500 bucks and they call them self techs
Also if its starting good its NOT the battery

That's a real good possibility. I've seen the same thing on a Toyota. Very hard to diagnose. Its due to the constant bending as the door opens and closes.

Re: 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited Problems Help!!!

First off, I would like to apologize for taking so long to update this thread. I just received my Jeep back about a week ago. It has been out of my possession for seven months and at my local mechanics shop. I am going to try to explain the problem as best as I can, as I have absolutely no knowledge when it comes to electrical issues. My mechanic stated that it was an issue with the rain sensing wipers. He stated that he found a short in that area of the vehicle with a power and ground wire crossed. He said that the sensors were bad and had to be replaced. He also replaced the fuse box under the hood due to some damage from a missing relay and finally the FCM unit got fried. I got a quote from my local Jeep dealership for an FCM for $998 dollars and found one online at jeepdodgeoem.com for $728. The fuse box cost me $200 dollars and He bought the sensors for the wipers so I am not sure about that. Regardless my final bill was 275.00 in labor after parts so they must not be too expensive. But the Jeep is running great, Just gave her the first oil change yesterday since I have had her.
