2005 JGC Rear Center Seat Belt Replacement

I recently bought a 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited 5.7L. It appears the rear center seat belt was pinched near the anchor and has ripped, I tried searching the forum on replacement but could not fund aything.

Does any body know how hard this is to replace? Does the seat backing need to un-zippered and taken off or can this all be done from the top?

Great forum BTW.

Thank you,
Mike

Re: 2005 JGC Rear Center Seat Belt Replacement

The seat back and trim from the rear has to come off. This involves taking out the seat cushion as well.

From there, you should be able to access everything needed to replace it.

Re: 2005 JGC Rear Center Seat Belt Replacement

Thanks for the reply Lee. Is the back cover easy to take off? Is it a simple zipper, or do you need a special tool?

Thanks again.
Mike

Re: 2005 JGC Rear Center Seat Belt Replacement

No special tools needed:

The seat cushion needs to come out -

Remove the two mounting bolts, one from each
side of the vehicle.
Slide the rear seat cushion forward to release the
hooks from the body pan.

Next, the seat back-

Loosen outboard lower anchor bolts and slide
the rear seat belt anchor off the bolt.
Remove the four rear seat back mounting bolts
and remove seat back from vehicle

Next, you have to remove the rear seat back cover:

Loosen outboard lower anchor bolts and slide
the rear seat belt anchor off the bolt.
Remove the four rear seat back mounting bolts

and remove seat back from vehicle.

Now you should be able to get at the seat belt:
Disengage the seat belt lower anchor through the
web guide loop integral to the top of the seat back
panel.
Disengage the retractor lock cable end fitting
from the seat back latch mechanism on the
upper outboard corner of the seat back panel.
Disengage the lock cable from the back panel
between the latch and the retractor.
Remove the screw from the back of the seat
back panel that secures the retractor.

Fianlly, you can remove the rear center seat belt and retractor unit
from the front of the left seat back panel.

Thanks for the detailed instruction Lee. These will definatly help me.

By the way my rear seat back cover looks, it appears it zippers off, your instructions indicate that the back cover bolts off. Can you clairify?

Re: 2005 JGC Rear Center Seat Belt Replacement

Yes, you are correct. I had copied the same information over twice. The cover should just unzip.
