2005 suspension clunk

I have been trying to search for the answer, to no avail. I have over 50K miles on my 05 grand, and for the last 30K I have a clunk. It comes from the front suspension. Going in and out of driveway. Sometimes when I brake or take off fast also.

I know I'm not the only one and would love a fix. I heard something about the sway bar bushings????

When under warranty I took it 2-3 times and they never could duplicate or find the fix.

It seems like its getting worse now though..

thanks
big-o

Re: 2005 suspension clunk

a clunk? I have the similiar issue except mine seems to "clunk"at first gear or when i hit the gas or let go of the gas in stop and go traffic. Does this sound like yours? Well it could be something completely different but just a heads up if it is the same issue i tried for about 4 months to get it fixed and got nowhere with the dealers. Good luck to you. Maybe some other members can chime in on this.

Your's sounds more like a driveline or engine/trans mount issue. I have a similar problem in mine, although it's not *too* bad just yet, but to me it feels like a little too much lash in the driveshaft, etc. If that's the case, new u-joints and esp. greasable would be nice. If it's in the diff, with improper setting of the gears (meshing) or wear, well that'd be a bigger issue

And yeah, getting a little bit of clunk in the dirver's side front on bumps and stuff and would bet it's the swaybar bushing/mounting hardware, or the strut attachment, etc...I've gone down a couple curbs, so imagine that didn't help, lol.

Re: 2005 suspension clunk

The thump is more likely the gas tank. The gas sloshing around in there bumps the tank.

I kinda think its the sway bar endlinks, etc. because its more prevalent on the drivers side, and its mostly when I turn and go up driveway.

Re: 2005 suspension clunk

its the links.. i'm saving for bwoody endlinks

and the driveline problem.. it's your differential mount/bushings (same thing) there are three of them so check them all.

Re: 2005 suspension clunk

^^^^^^there are 3 front diff bushings. they mount the front diff to the chassis. front diff needs removed and bushing needs pressed in.
