2005 WH WCM problem?
I have the following problem with my 2005 WH CRD which I think may relate to the WCM.
This problem is NOT intermittent and I have not been able to start the car for 3 days.
Yesterday after having disconnected the battery overnight (thought it might drop the "service 4wd" message after the fuse pull trick stopped working) I went to use the car and it started and then cut out after 2-3 seconds, this happened 3 times and then refused to crank any more.
During the course of trying to cure this I noticed that the *1 steering had stopped locking and that the buzz as you put the key in and out of the barrel had stopped.
*1 Is the steering control module (steering locking) controlled by the wcm?
I have searched the forum and tried most of the tricks (disconnecting the battery leads and touching together for 10+ seconds, locking and unlocking multiple times both with key and remote etc.)
I have carefully checked every fuse in every location and all are fine. I have fully charged the battery overnight and tried both keys.
I have also substituted a known good battery for the slightly suspect original.
This documents the symptoms perfectly:
TSB NUMBER: 08-061-05
DATE: December 02, 2005
The vehicle operator may experience an intermittent no-start. One or more of the following
specific conditions may occur: no engine crank, engine will crank but not start, engine will
crank and start but will immediately stop (within two seconds of start up).
Diagnosis may reveal the presence of one or more of the following Diagnostic Trouble
B2224 - SKREEM / WCM Internal
B2254 - Column Lock Module - Internal
That TSB is 9 years old and my car has got this far, can it be the same thing?
I cannot get to these codes with my reader, I am 55kms from the nearest dealer in France.
Any input as to what I might do without StarScan would be appreciated. Thanks, David
