2005 WK 4.7 Oil Leak?

My 2005 4.7 WK has recently developed an oil leak. This is my first winter with the Jeep (was a NC Jeep all its life now in OH) and the leak started when the temps were dropping. It appears to be coming from the front of the motor, but other then the valve covers and heads, I can not tell the exact location of the leak, but looks like the crankshaft pulley seal or maybe the timing cover

Any known issues to look for? The pulley seems to sling the oil around a bit, so its hard to find the exact leak location.

Any common leak points I should look for? I may try the crankshaft seal as it doesn't seem like to big of a job versus the timing cover.

Re: 2005 WK 4.7 Oil Leak?

Does it have already many miles on it? I have now 245K km on mine and no leaks from the front seal and so far didnīt hear from others with a leak there.
Just be sure that the oil is not coming from the low oil pressure switch/transducer and dripping down.
The front seal replacement requires some special tools. One for pulling the vibration damper of and another to remove/install the seal.
Radiator cooling fan most probably needs to be removed to get access.

My 05 just went thru an oil leak problem also. It started when it was getting cold outside. Turned out to be the valve cover gasket.
