2005 WK GC 4.7 "won't start" scenario

Well maintained 05 WK 4.7 with 66K miles. Yesterday, for first time, drove to a store 15 minutes from home, stopped with engine off. Would not restart, no starter, no clicking. Towed to Dealer where it sat over night, went this AM to get stuff from Jeep and it started multiple times sitting. Left with Dealer who replaced ignition module, stated No Codes came up, did tranny reflash. Drove it 20 minutes home, ran fine, turned off engine and again would not restart. Left her for 30+ minutes, Jeep started, drove it for 10 minutes, shut her off..again no immediate restart plus when I would take the key out the flashers flashed once.

No signs to indicate shift plate at fault (PNRD don't all light up at same time, etc), no recent work done... With car not driven for a while, will start multiple times but actually taking off in car for any length of time produces the "no start...go wait a while scenario"

Sound familar to anyone. Dealer said when they had it that they had no real idea as to what went on.

Re: 2005 WK GC 4.7 "won't start" scenario

If there is not even a fainth click from the starter relay, then the problem can be with the ignition switch, the starter relay or wiring. Also the Park/Neutral safety switch inside the transmission can be the culprit. Sometimes moving the shifter a bit forward/aft will help. Or try to put it in Neutral and start. If this switch is faulty, you will need a new TRS/solenoid block, which sits inside the transmission, on top of the valve body.
But you will need to start measuring voltage to be sure where the real problem is.

Thanks for the reply...went through the wiring and relays with the 12V lead to the solenoid seemingly the problem...able to just wiggle it around with extension pliers and car has started multiple times. Possible a faulty starter with a "flat" spot on stator but doubt. A bitch and a half to remove the wires from starter for thorough cleaning or to fit a new connector. I can't see how and manual instructions not much help..some say remove drive shaft, others say not necessary.

If the problem is the starter, then you still should hear the fainth click of the starter relay. If you hear that, then check the signal wire from the starter relay to the starter solenoid. The connector on this wire on the starter solenoid is known to give problems due to bad contact.

That was it...thanks. Wiggled the solenoid wire a bit and problem gone but would like to be ABLE TO CLEAN THOSE CONNECTORS. IMPOSSIBLE TO GET TO ON A 4.2. BARELY ABLE TO REACH CONNECTOR WITH AN EXTENSION PLIERS FROM BELOW. Tried removing fender liner..able to just touch wiring cable stuffing my hand through.

If so difficult to reach, i would just use some contact cleaner spray and spray it on, wiggle it a bit and spray again. Its most probably oxydation of the contact point.
