2005 WK Laredo Adjustable Pedal Malfunction

I have a 2005 WK Laredo 4x4 3.7L w/ adjustable pedals. The pedals were at lowest (most forward) setting and worked fine until recently. Now the pedals move less than 1/4 inch up before stopping. Reverse direction is same story. The mechanical gear cable drive from the brake motor to the accelerator pulsates when the pedals stop. I tried the brute force method with no success. Replacement part for accelerator pedal alone is estimated at $210 plus labor. Any ideas? It would not be a big deal for me, but my wife is short and needs the pedals completely rearward to drive it.
