2005 WK limited Oil Leak Problem

My 2005 Limited 5.7L has just rolled over 150,000 miles. Owned it since new so know all the service history. Has been well taken care of over the years and still in very good shape, but with 150K several items have needed replacement recently. I had the valve cover gaskets replaced a few months back to solve some oil leak issues. The oil was working its way down to the Catalytic that is right below the rear of the oil pan and burning off the oil, thus smelling up the cabin while the car was idling. Now it seems I have another oil leak that I notice mainly when I finish driving on a freeway at high speeds. The oil is dripping on the skid plate and then blowing back off onto the same catalytic as described above. Once it burns off and I am driving around the neighborhood the oil burnoff is not that noticeable. I just had a local shop look at on the lift and we saw oil that could be from the pan, but also could be front the rear seal. The shop is recommending replacing both the seal and pan gasket to ensure he get anything that could be leaking once and for all.

Anyone have any experience with this same issue and what in the end was the resolution? I thought we had it knocked out with the valve covers but apparently more work needs to be done. The quote I got for both the rear seal and pan gasket was in the $1100-1200 range.

Re: 2005 WK limited Oil Leak Problem

I had a local dealership inspect the 2005 yesterday. There tech came back with a additional source of the oil leak being oil pooling in the intake valley from leaking MDS solenoids. I have never read or heard of this possibility on the forums before. There recommendation to attack the leak problem would be to remove and inspect the intake area first. If oil pooling event, replace the rear solenoid pack and intake gasket and see if the leak stops. If it doesn't move onto the rear main and pan gasket. This is looking like a very expensive fix. Curious as to comments on the MDS solenoids being the cause, anyone heard of this before.

Re: 2005 WK limited Oil Leak Problem

Never heard of such a thing. How is the oil supposed to get out of the "valley/crankcase" and onto the ground? Is this another stealer BS story, or ?
