Re: 2006 Grand Cherokee Laredo lost communication with the TCM again!

I have the exact same problem with the exact same estimate, $1800. Is it safe to assume I should have them replace the trans relay switch before paying $1800 to replace the front controller and trans control module?

Yes!!!! Have someone you can trust check for a spare under there. Ours had a spare and it saved us from having to buy another. It was shorting out and they couldn't figure it out for awhile! No problems since, (knock on wood!!!) Good luck!

Re: 2006 Grand Cherokee Laredo lost communication with the TCM again!

robbj24: I am having the same problems with my wife's Jeep. Wondered if replacing the trans relay switch fixed your problem?

Oscarq: was wondering what you meant by having a spare relay switch? when I look in the fuse box there isnt any relay switch located in the spot marked for "Trans Relay Switch." Was wondering if you had your mechanic wire a new one in?

Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks guys

Re: 2006 Grand Cherokee Laredo lost communication with the TCM again!

Our spare was found under the dash by the steering column. I believe this was the problem all along. The mechanic said when one goes bad the others don't communicate with each other. We haven't had any problems since. We spent alot of money on labor and parts not needed only to find out the transmission relay was shorting out causing problems and false readings. Good luck!

Re: 2006 Grand Cherokee Laredo lost communication with the TCM again!

I have the same problem with code U0101 and All mechanical workshops indicate that I have to change the PCM.

The symptoms are exactly the same as described EPS BAS and Trans Temp.

I can tell exactly where the trans relay. can post a picture or something.

Please Help

Re: 2006 Grand Cherokee Laredo lost communication with the TCM again!

We are currently having the same problem with our jeep. Your post has been very full of helpful information (sorry you had to go through so much trouble). The trans relay that was shorting out that finally fixed the problem when it was replaced, is it located in the fuses or under the steering column or where the spare was? I thought if we start with it, we may save some money trying to fix the problem. It acts like it is a short with an electrical item.
