2007 Grand Cherokee stalling while driving

I have a 2007 Grand Cherokee 3.0lt CRD Overland which has a random stalling problem. Normally happens when accelerating from start but has happened at travelling at 60mph. I originally got seven error codes on my diagnostic tool, 6 being each injector showing circuit low and the seventh being the glow plug control module. I replaced the GPCM and the problem still existed so I was told to replace the crankshaft position sensor which I did and still the problem exists. Can anybody help with this as I have seen on the internet it 'could' be the ignition switch but I am reluctant to spend any more money without somebody having the same problem.

Re: 2007 Grand Cherokee stalling while driving

There seems to be a wiring harness which goes to the ECM, which can be rubbing on an AC line. This harness goes from under the battery tray to the ECM. worn through wire isolation can cause a short, which can result in the problem you have.

Re: 2007 Grand Cherokee stalling while driving

Thanks for you for your reply I will give a look.

The six error codes I get are....
P0261 - Cylinder 1 Injector Circuit Low
and the same for the remaining 5 cylinders. There is no rhyme of reason as to when this stall occurs. I am being pointed to the PCM at fault by reluctant to buy one without a sure diagnosis.

Re: 2007 Grand Cherokee stalling while driving

I have no experience with this myself, but after some googling i came with a solution a mechanic had found for the same fault codes and stalling. I will copy it here for you:

["I have been having this problem for a couple months now. With in a few miles after starting and thne driving the Jeep, my electronic throttle control (ETC) light and my check engine light comes on. When this happens I lose power to the engine. I have normally put in into N which then kills the motor. Once I coast to a stop I can then put it in park, shut the key off, and open the door. I then clsoe the door and restart the engine and it runs fine, but the ETC still flashes and the check engine light is still on. If I let the car sit off for a while, the ETC light goes away, and then normally over night the check engine light will go away. I also get 6 engine codes: P0261, P0264, P0267, P0270, P0273, P0276. These codes are for the 6 cylinders and all state "injector circuit low" as the fault. Any ideas?"[/QUOTE]

Hey just wanted to let you know I have a customer with a 2008 Grand Cherokee here at the shop, exact codes, will intermittently die while driving. Check the wiring harness to the PCM, under the battery. Follow it about 8-10 inches back to where it goes up to the lower valve cover. You may find the harness rubbing through on the A/C line, like I did. Open the harness, repair the wiring, close it up and add more protection. And move away from the line. Fixed this one

Re: 2007 Grand Cherokee stalling while driving

Thank you, this has really bugged me and I don't want to through more money on what 'stealerships' want to pay for not curing the problem. I will check out the harness at the weekend and let you know if I cure the problem or back to where I began

Re: 2007 Grand Cherokee stalling while driving

Have checked the harness this morning and apart from somebody replacing a wire to the EGR valve I can't see anything untoward with the harness. Have now emailed a repairer of ECU's to see if the error codes could be connected to it. I did take it out this morning and clean it up but the connectors to it looked pretty clean.

Does anybody else have any advice with this as I am sure I am not the only person with this fault.

Thank you

Re: 2007 Grand Cherokee stalling while driving

Frank you may just be my hero.... after checking the harness yesterday I couldn't see any issue but the problem got much much worse today after I had played about so bad in fact we had to call out the AA (not sure if you are UK but that's one of our emergency breakdown company's).

When they arrived I went through the same scenario as I have done countless times on the internet but after further examination without any luck including their database I told him about your encounter so we removed the battery and carrier again and we found 'deep' down a wiring harness outer casing had rubbed through onto an air con pipe as you described but we couldn't see without going deeper if a wire had been rubbed through so he tie-wrapped the harness away from the pipe and we got home (23 miles) without any problems.

It doesn't look like this is a 'common' problem but members may be advised to check the harness as Frank describes above to make sure theirs is ok as the harness has stupid push studs that are supposed to keep it away but after time they break away, so far I have found five on the harness that are no longer attached and that's only on the left side of the engine.

Frank Thankssssssssssss again you could have saved me a fortune trying to find this problem.
