Exclamation 2008 Jeep Grand Cherokee Problem

Hi there, I own a 2008 Grand Cherokee (auto) and over the past few weeks I have been experiencing some problems with it. When i'm driving on the road, it will NOT go over 50 km/h. Even if I push the gas pedal all the way down to the floor, it remains at 50 km/h. When I accelerate it starts bumping back and forth. I brought it to a mechanic yesterday and they did tests on it, saying it was the "speed sensor". I was ready to get it replaced, and was given a quota of $1000 from a different garage. I did some research over the web and labor should be around $200, and the sensor itself should be around $70-$100. Clearly, this is a ripoff. I need to know how if it's actually the speed sensor and not the transmission itself. Thanks in advance, any help would be appreciated!

Re: 2008 Jeep Grand Cherokee Problem

sounds like what you are experiencing is "limp mode".

Is the check engine light on, can you have it scanned for codes?

Re: 2008 Jeep Grand Cherokee Problem

It does sound like the Vehicle speed sensor that I replaced on mine. Mine wouldn't shift, felt like it was fighting itself, and if I turned it off then restarted it then it would go. You should try to get a print out from your mechanic, or at least the code# they pulled from the computer.

had that problem last week, ck light came on, i read DTC code, not speed sensor, went tow in to dealer, they trouble shoot it, found out main circuit board. broke, which is inside transmission, above valve body. so replaced all the elctrical compents, inside trans, quite a expensive repair job, almost like rebuilding trans price.
