2010 Jeep Grand Cherokee 5.7 Hemi P0750 DC
Hoping to get some guidance/direction from the experts here. I have a 2010 GC with the 5.7 Hemi in it. It's currently got 117K miles on it 80-90% of which are Hwy miles.
Thur (9/11/14) it went into Limp mode, staying in 4th, on my way home from work. Stopped at AZ to get head light bulbs and had them check the code. came back P0750 Shift Solenoid A malfunction. Took it into christian brothers fri afternoon for full diag. They said solenoids needed to be replaced but recommended a full trans overhaul due to mileage.
Wed 9/17 dropped it off at a transmission shop for diagnostics/estimate. He calls back and says it's internal and asks to remove and inspect. Calls back a day later and says it needs an overhaul lists off a bunch of items he needs to replace. Gives me a total of $3909 + tax. I tell him that's a lot and I need to talk it over with wife, may be that we just pay diagnostics and trade it in. He comes back saying that once he takes it apart it kinda falls apart and may not go back together.
This seems high based on what 1st mechanic estimated as well as what it cost to rebuild the transmission on my 99 Jeep. On top of that the Jeep was running fine right up to going into limp mode, no issues shifting or anything. Am I right that something here doesn't smell right? Does it seem likely that the transmission would need a complete overhaul based on this error code?
On a semi related note: any recommendations for a transmission shop in north fort worth/keller/roanoke TX area?
