I have a 2012 jeep liberty with less than 35000 miles it is leaking oil bad under drain plug. I thought the plug gasket was bad so I bought a new plug and GASKet from jeep took it to Goodyear to change oil with new plug they said oil pan rusted out under plug oil leaking bad called dealership they would not do anything called jeep customer care and they could care less . I do not know what to do now the oil pan had to be defective from day one. I sent the attorney general an email next is probably an attorney any ideas would be helpful... thanks THIS WILL BE MY LAST JEEP

First, you're posting in the wrong forum. You want the KJ forum (WK = grand cherokee; KJ = Liberty). Perhaps someone over there has seen your issue.

As to your post...not really sure what you are expecting. I don't think the oil pan is covered under the basic warranty (which is expired anyway). It sucks, for sure, but I don't think a lawyer is going to help you out with this one (and their fees will be likely more than the cost to replace the oil pan).

If it rusted through, you have a hard time proving that it wasn't your negligence that caused the problem (was it sprayed with an undercoating if you live in an area that salts the roads? How often was it cleaned? Could it have been damaged by getting hit?)

Have you actually seen the rust damage? I would first look for myself or get a second opinion as to what is actually wrong with it. Oil change places are great for convenience...not so great for getting an actual expert to look at your car.

I feel bad for you, as I think it is a pricey fix, but I don't think the manufacturer is to blame in this case.

I was in automotive business for over 20 years I do not know how much you know about cars but no one should except this from a manufacturer My car looks like show condition new no rust except the oil pan and the oil pan should last longer than the rest of the car because it is about one eight inch thick poor design or defective material no other reason and any body willing to except this should not own a car

Hi bimlay69,

Sorry to hear about this, from your post it sounds like you haven't been to a Jeep dealership yet for an official diagnosis of your vehicle. We definitely recommend having that done in order to determine what happened to your oil pan!

I got under their my self I did not believe them when they told me so I went back to them and got my original drain plug off of them. The drain plug has the gasket molded on to the plug you can see the gasket has separated in a perfect circle that is were the rust is I was in the business for 20 + years this is so hard to imagine ford was real common with their drain pans rusting out but usually after 100000 miles and at least 10 years and mostly on vans and trucks. I tried to stop the oil with a product I use to use called seal all great product had no luck but I am disabled these days and every thing becomes a major chore. When I feel better I am going to get under their remove the drain plug clean it up take pics and then go from their. I really makes me mad you spend 27000 and they use inferior parts not acceptable and the rest of the car looks like you just drove it off the show room floor Thanks
