3.7L Normal MPG - O2 sensors bad

Hello!
I have current MPG in city about 11.5-12.
Check Engine lights [both rear O2 sensors is bad]
Can non-working O2 rear sensors produce such MPG level?

What normal City MPG for 85-87 Octane?

Town - I think your mpg is about what I would expect. I avg 16-17 with a mix of city/hwy, but on all hwy trips I'm closer to 20. City mpg SUCKS.

Re: 3.7L Normal MPG - O2 sensors bad

Rear O2s have no effect on fuel consumption.

Re: 3.7L Normal MPG - O2 sensors bad

I live and work in a real small town, about 3 miles to work. I get about the same, 11-12 mpg in town. Like mentioned above when I travel I usually average between 17-20 mpg.

Re: 3.7L Normal MPG - O2 sensors bad

I drive 21 miles one way to work everyday with my "05, and am dooing well if I get 17mpg.

Mileage has never been a strong suit with a WK.

Until recently, no - 100% stock. The only thing I've done is replace the tires with slightly bigger. I just went from 225's to 245's. I'm hoping it doesn't affect mileage too much. I'm still on my first tank of gas since the new tires so I don't know yet.

unless you changed your profile, all you did was widen the aspect ratio (width)
ex: 225/60/17 is a shorter tire then a 225/70/17

a 225/65/17 is narrower then a 255/65/17

I don't think you hurt you mpg's if at all its small

Re: 3.7L Normal MPG - O2 sensors bad

The front O2 Sensors monitor the fuel mixture, and the rears monitor the effectivenss of the catalytic converter(s). The rear sensors, by themselves, will not cause poor fuel economy, but if the catalyst is bad, and/or the front sensors are lazy or biased rich or lean, FE will be affected.
