4.7 Transmission Overtemp issue

I got a transmission over temp message pop up and brought it my mechanic. He brought in a specialist that ended up replacing the solenoid pack. I drove it for a few days and the transmssion over temp warning came back on. I did check the fluid level with the engine running and it seemed to be fine, but the fluid looked pretty thin. Any thoughts on what I should look at next?

Best would be to get an infra red temperature meter and check the temperature of the transmission pan as soon as the message appears. It is known that the PCM can be faulty and give the overtemp message, while the temperature is still normal. The temperature sensor is part of the solenoid block, so that one was already changed and can be ruled out as a possibility. Shaved wire is eventually also possible.

Thanks, I picked up an infrared thermometer and the reading came back at 137 degrees. When the message came on, I aimed at the bottom of the pan and at the side of the pan with similar readings. I was only driving about 10 minutes under 40 miles an hour, but in traffic. Any thoughts on what a normal temperature range might be?

I did notice that there was a small leak coming from the pan, but the dipstick still read in the hot area while the engine was on, so I assume there is enough fluid to be effective.

All, the transmission overtemp message came on again, this time the infrared thermometer read 210 deg F. It's much hotter than the other readings I've taken, leading me to believe that the transmission is indeed getting hot.

There is a small leak, but the shop I took it to has been unable to repair it after 2 tries. They said the leak was a stripped bolt on the pan.

Since I've already replaced the solenoid pack, what else could cause an overtemp problem?

When I'm not wrong, the overtemp message should come on at 240 F. 210F seems to be ok, its the temperature of the coolant. The transmission fluid is cooled inside the radiator by the coolant.
A stripped bolt on the pan can be repaired with a helicoil thread insert.
I heard of this problem before, and it was mostly caused by the PCM, which has the TCM function in it.

so to make sure I understand, I need to watch the engine coolant temperature gauge? i took the 210 degree reading on the bottom of the transmission oil pan. I assume the pan would be a little bit cooler compared to the inside of the transmission. Thanks for helping me troubleshoot.
