5.7 steering pump

Ok so my HEMI's power steering pump is noisy and at times is not boosting the steering so I am going to replace it. I would also like to flush it at this time, I see the Mopar fluid is expensive, REALLY expensive to just run 2-3 qts threw the system to get all the old out, is there a different fluid that is acceptable?? and common sense says to flush it before the new pump is installed as to not run any potential debris threw the new pump, is that correct?? flush first.

The power steering also drives the hydraulic cooling fan so it uses special hydraulic fluid, not atf.

I order the fluid from mopar wholesale websites... its around $7/quart.

Re: 5.7 steering pump

I added parts store power steering stop leak that said compatable with all power steering fluid, two weeks later my steering rack had no seals at all.. Stick to nothing but the Jeep stuff.

Re: 5.7 steering pump

Put on the pump, took off the grille, unhooked the line at the drivers side of the power steering cooler, put a long hose into a waste jug, plugged off the hose going into the reservoir, had a helper start the Jeep and turn the wheel in both directions, ran 2 qts of MOPAR fluid threw it, buttoned everything up, filled it up, turned the wheel 20 times each way with the motor off and the wheels off the ground, she is now fixed and quiet.
