ABS, ESC, Traction Control, Service 4WD

Hi all, been looking around with regards to the above but have not found the exact issue...

Put my 2006 WK 3.0CRD into reverse, I heard a loud clunck, and the above lights turned on.

Turned on\off the ignition a few times, and eventually the lights went out, whilst driving all seemed fine, until I had to brake, and it appears that the ABS is engaging, I can feel the brake pedal pulseate, note was not braking hard, and road conditions were good.

This didnt always happen during breaking, and appears to be no pattern.

Later after the Jeep had been parked for a while, went to drive again, and this time no lights, but the car started to judder violently, and made a weird whining sound.

Could it be whee speed sensor? no one has mentioned the ABS engaging and pedal pulsing....

Turned car off, turned ignition to allow glow plug light to go out, Service 4WD came back on, but no power to engine, turned off, tried again, ABS, ESC, Tracition control and Service 4WD lights stayed on until I got home.

Low tranny fluid. The pulsating and jerking sounds like a jeep low tranny fluid issue . Have you checked it .

No, not checked the trans dipstick, the cover says do not remove, dealership only.

Turned on the car today, no 4WD message, but the ABS, ESP, and traction lights are still on, would the trans fluid affect them?

If it is the trans fluid, can I top it up myself?

That little dealership thing is there because you probably don't have a dip stick. If that's the case, then it's going to be hard to check it. and yes, you can top it off. Im not sure what tranny fluid you use ( being a 3.0 ) however, for best results you can take it to the dealership and ask them to check the fluid, they will check, if it's low they will add what it needs and USUALLY charge you just for the fluid. I know it sounds silly, simple, and easy. but these cars are just complete and utter useless paper weights when you start to mess with fluid levels on them. not sure why.

Hope that helps... hope im right anyways, cheapest fix of all!

Hm, the Jeep service centre near me has gone into administration (closing / closed down) and they were not that good caused the knocking sound (bearings) during my service a couple years back.

Going to need to take it elsewhere, have a feeling its going to be something more than the fluid, anyone know if low trans fluid can cause the ABS, ESP and traction lights to come on?

or could it be the ABS and or wheel speed sensor?

VERY well could be a speed sensor... if you pulled a code it would help to isolate the faulty sensor... if you have an intermittant signal from a sensor, when you apply the brakes and the signal drops out it will tell itself that that wheel just locked up and try to get that wheel spinning again. So an intermittant wheel speed signal can cause an intermittant abs operation while braking.

would the on\off key sequence be able to pull out the code?

Any idea guys? the off on key trick doesnt seem to work on my jeep, so I cant retrieve the codes. when i put the car into reverse there is a clunk, and when i change to drive i can hear a bizzare whine......

not sure if i can even drive it to the jeep place, weather is cold, and risk of ice, and wheels are def spinning or doing something weird.

the clunk is probably your front diff bushings.. VERY common especially on the wk's with torque. Much less common on the 3.7's ha ha. the bizzare whine, is it a whine or a buzzing... buzzing is totally normal.

even if the key dance worked it wouldnt give you codes in the abs module. even cheap scanners wont give you that information. You need something that will talk with the abs module, which may be a trip to a shop unfourtunatly. Hopefully your buddys works.

God, is there no end....... dont tell me I need my bushes changing also..

Not sure about the sound, maybe it is a buzzing, and I am just listening out for it because I am experiecing other problems.

Think I will have to nurse it to my Jeep centre on Wed if they got a free slot, abouy $75 for 30 mins diag fees... sigh...

So I am ready to roll, if it is a speed sensor anyone know how much it costs and how easy it is to replace?

so took it to jeep, turns out the N/S/R wheel speed sensor is faulty and needs changing, implusable single........

they want $400 to change the part, does anyone know how to change this? is it straight forward? i would rather do it myself.

they sold me the part its called sending unit wheel speed, part no K56044146AB

off topic, my sat nav has also stopped working, enter the destination, gets as far as "please proceed" and then nothing happens, just stays with the "please proceed" surely this cant be connected to my sensor problem?
