For about a week now my airbag light in the guage cluster has been on all the time, only the one in the gauge cluster not the one under the radio. Taking the battery terminals off did not help.
I'm thinking the clock spring might be bad but I'm hoping its simple. I checked all the connections under the drivers seat with no luck.

well i thought about it some more..... my clockspring broke in the part that controls the switches, not the airbag so that might be why i didnt get a light. if you do need a new one, the cheapest place was just for jeeps. becuase you can use the 5% off code and save a bunch by not having to pay PA sales tax.

How can I check for sure? And what do you think it would cost ballpark to fix?

honestly I would at least take it to a shop and pay them for diag and go from there. Unless its the module its all stuff you can replace yourself, and even the module doesnt ring any bells for needing to be updated or anthing when installed. With a scantool that can pull the airbag codes it will narrow the search right down, without you can pull out the roulette wheel and start flushing money down the drain.

Airbags are a system that if your careful and methodical anyone can do it, but even experienced techs have broken limbs and even died to an airbag explosion from spacing out and doing something they NEVER would have done if they gave it one more second to think about it. things like if you roll the g-sensor under the center console over while its connected, KABOOM you just set off most if not all your airbags which just in cost to replace the airbags and damaged components due to the event would cause the vehicle to be nearly totaled.

I had to replace the clockspring. The original costs $150 or so but has been replaced by a new module that runs around $650. I found one off an online dealer for $450 and my local dealer matched the price. Its pretty easy to change.

looks like it can range from 150 - 650 to fix... man this sucks! I'd rather remove the bulb then pay 600 bucks to have it fixed!! haha thats just a bunch of...

Can someone explain exactly what the clock spring does? And what will happen if the bags are needed and thats going bad? My jeeps going in the AM for tranny service so im gonna have them look.

A clock spring is the mechanism that transfers electronics from the spinning steeringwheel to teh stationary column. It fails when a circuit goes open as any circuit that moves for 100k miles will eventually.

So he said 150$ for the original, but a new unit for like 600 or more. Why cant I just use the one for 150?

I tried to find the one for $150 but every dealer i called said it had been superceded by a new part that costs $650. I found the part on an online dealers website for 450 and my local dealer actually matched the price. Maybe you could try getting it price matched.

i have the same light on ... i even started a thread about it... and got little help

my light comes on and off randomly, its dead center in the dash, bright red and super annoying. i took it to the mechanic and he said he could just turn it off for me... if its something serious, i might actually check it out.

Yea I wouldn't mess with that light, if its on leave it on, if you get it shut off and forget it was on you won't do anything to get it fixed. Mines getting checked out asap
