Automatic Headlight Leveling

I have an 08 GC Overland.

My headlights are WAY to low. I get 6' with low beam and 25' with high beam. When I have my high beams on all the time. No one blinks their lights at me.

Here is what the manual says:

Automatic Headlight Leveling--HID headlights only.
This feature prevents the headlights from interfering with the vision of oncoming drivers. Headlight leveling automatically adjust the height of the headlight beam in reaction to changes in vehicle pitch.

(So why are my headlight so low and never change not matter what the pitch of my car is?)

How do I find out if I have HID headlights? What are HID headlights?

The car has almost every option so I assume it has HID headlights.

(Bought the car used, so I'm not sure)

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks in advance. CK

Sorry to keep asking so many questions about this car, but the more I drive it the more questions I find. (Love the car. 22.6 mpg last 2K trip) going 70 mph! 5.7 motor

Sorry, I'm was not up on all the auto lingo. (or should I say Lighting Lingo?)

And yes, they are HID headlights like the ones shown in the photo just posted.

Can they be adjusted manually?

Re: Automatic Headlight Leveling

There is an adjustment screw on the top that can be adjusted by a phillips screwdriver. You likely have auto-leveling problems

Re: Automatic Headlight Leveling

Hi, I have an 09, also with HID. This same problem happened to me twice already, first time the motor for adjusting the headlights was broken and replaced under warranty. The second time, this summer, the rear sensor, on of the sensors used for measuring the 'level' of the car, was malfunctioning and had to be replaced.

In both cases it was done at a Jeep dealer, so I can't tell ya how to diagnose where exactly your problem lies..

Headlamps sensor 55079006AD
Headlamps sensor contact 68018956AA

These parts were for the sensor in the rear-right.

Hope it will help you something.
