AVOID: Rick Hendrick Collision Center Charleston, SC

My motor must have been rebuilt on a Friday. After 3 years and 33k miles, my rebuilt 5.7 has been found to have a leaking head gasket and deemed to have been doing it since immediatley after the rebuild. I just couldnt identify it and only pieced the puzzle together when it started drinking oil.

I called up Rick Hendrick only to find out I had a pathetic 12k/1 year warranty and they never bothered to register it with Chrysler either. This is apparently a standard warranty on workmanship. That is crap for such a massive amount of work. Its obvious they dont do a good enough job to warrant a better guarantee.

A friend of mine who is a Porsche mechanic and driver is staying with me (Thank god, dont have the $k's to drop for this repair) and helping me do this job in my garage.

So far, weve found coolant and oil has been burning and worse, a f***ing headbolt was finger tight and not even torqued!!!

Thought it was pretty cool how MDS worked and was amazed that it shut down an entire side of the motor. I thought it was just select pistons from each side.

Also, does anybody know how to get the fuel line off the intake manifold? All the special adapters and tools for it arent working. The manual calls for a special Snap-On tool but we dont have access to that.

Dang, what kind of oil were you running in it? Looks like dino oil with 100000 miles on the engine. Did you have a catch can on it?

Also, your dyno base line pull looks to be ~30 rwhp lower than a good running stock 5.7 with a stock exhaust. With your headers/exhaust, and nothing else (except maybe a tune) you should have easily be a little over 300 rwhp.

Anyone, what's done is done. Now you should be able to make that thing move, if you do the right mods. to the engine.

I think a lot has to do with that when dyno'd it was rear wheels only. The Jeep is AWD. My friend has a slight suspicion that I may have been suffereing in a little power but the math adds up with distributed drivetrain losses. I have tested the MY14 Overland (as I was worried I wasted my money on mods) and comparitively my Jeep is by far more powerful.

There is a mild tune on the ECU and TCU.

Ive been running Mobil 1 5w20 as advised by the manufacturer. After this, Im running Elf or Redline 5w30, which is true synthetic. I found that many oils at the auto store are not actually pure synthetic which I find terrifying, not even Mobil 1 is actually full synthetic unless you get Advanced. Oil manufacturers seem to run on the same BS as beer companies do with "imported from x" which most, in fact, is NOT imported. (Do you serisously think a skunk beer like Heinken would survive a trip from Holland? ) So, baiscally, just because it says synthetic, doesnt mean fully no-s*** synthetic. Royal Purple perhaps? Hell no, its snake oil garbage and dont let anyone tell you that otherwise.

The hemi deactivates 2 cylinders from each bank, not one whole bank.

Also be careful not running 5w20, the MDS system is very picky and using the wrong weight oil can and will cause problems.

The manufacturer is an oil whore, not sure if your talking chrysler or the engine rebuilder, but either way, so long as the oil meets API standards, oil is oil. Some add better goodies into their oil but its all going to do what it is supposed to do... BTW, Chrysler is in bed with pennzoil now after bailing out on a large bill to Mobil during the bankruptcy. Everyone will say their oil is better, but at the end of the day there is NO proof from ANY manufacturer that using any oil that meets the specs for the motor and API standards, that your motor will run any longer or with less issues than using generic brand X. Don't get me wrong, I'm a Valvoline guy, but I am honest about the fact that its because the pretty colors and not that it does any better than the other oils I have had in the motor.

I dont know which tool is called for or what exactly the fitting looks like but I dont know of 1 chrysler fuel line I haven't been able to disconnect with a set of these:

Thanks for the tips. I figure running 5w-30 wont be too much of a big deal. Its just 5w-20 down here in FL is killing me running this stuff. I WISH I could run 10w-30 but that little pesky MDS detail.

Let me know if you find a source for that fuel line remover/adapter thingy

I should have been more specific on the oil thing. I meant 5w20 as advised by Chrysler. Sorry for the confusion.
