Bad sound coming from front end... sounds like I need grease in a bearing or somethin

Background info:
2006 Overland with 89k miles
Today was the first time I ever heard this noise.
High heat and high humidity (Tampa, FL)
Location on vehicle: Passenger-front

Symptom:
It was not an engine or suspension noise. It sounded like a bearing that dried up and was in desperate need of replacing... maybe a bushing that just needs greasing?? The best way I can describe it is to say it sounded like a dull high-pitch noise... maybe like a cat purring but with a high-pitch tone added in. I originally heard it at 35mph and it went away very briefly, then it came back at higher speeds (80mph), but once I slowed down to 70ish mph, it went away and intermitently came back along the way. The ride was still smooth and unaffected. Any ideas what it could be? Thanks.

Well the original noise I heard was at 35mph or so going straight to get onto an on ramp to get on the interstate. Once the on ramp turned, the noise went away and then that's when it came back when I got up to speed and merging on the interstate.... going straight again.

I would have a look at the half shaft CV joint boots, if they are not cracked and all grease went out.

How can I tell if they are holding grease?

Update: drove the vehicle again after letting it sit in the garage for 2-3 hours and wasn't able to replicate the noise again by duplicating the same drive as when it originally occurred.

If the boot is intact, then most probably there will be grease inside. As soon as the boot gets torn, the grease will fly all over and it will be all dirty around it.
