Badly in need of assistance

Let me first of all say thank you in advance for even reading this. This all started last summer. I jumped in my 06 anniversary edition wk and took off. I was going about 45-55 and then came to a complete stop at a stop sign and went to take off and I could barely move. The engine would rev pretty high but the car would barely take off. This happened a few times until I could take it to a mechanic who said he couldn't do anything without a check engine light on; which it still isn't. It did it off and on for awhile and then stopped, now it's doing it again every so often. Any tips or advice is greatly appreciated, thank you again for reading

Sounds like it may be in limp mode. You may have some intermittent issue that is knocking it into limp mode could be one of a variety of sensors, camshaft, crankshaft.... are you sure you never had a light come on even for a short time. If it is throwing codes it should be storing them get some one to read the codes if its going into limp it should be storing the code

Re: Badly in need of assistance

I've never seen one when the problem is happening. I had one this winter when my fan went bad, but that's taken care of.

Re: Badly in need of assistance

so are you sure that the mechanic hooked it up and looked for any stored codes when you took it in? or did they just say they want a light on. you need to get the codes read to see if there any stored

The engine is revving, but the car does not move?
If that is the case, that sounds more like a transmission/torque convertor problem... but try to find a non-chain specialist to check it out.

It'll move, but very slowly. It revs up pretty high and will barely move. I should also note that pulling over and restarting the engine fixes the problem temporarily

Re: Badly in need of assistance

That definitely sounds more like torque convertor/transmission, unless transfer case.

If your mech is looking for engine fault codes, it might be time to explore other talent.

if it is moving slowly when you try to accelerate like you say but reving that sounds like limp mode. limp mode will lock the car in 4th or 5th gear keeping it there making it very hard to accelerate from a stop but allowing you to "limp" home. the code causing that should be stored. I have had the exact thing happen before. car went into limp, locked in 4th and very hard to accelerate, and it ended up being a bad camshaft sensor. pulled the code and replaced the sensor and all was well. but you need the code to know what has failed or is intermittent

yeah pretty sure you have got an intermittent sensor somewhere that is knocking it into limp every once in awhile. mine did the same with the restart fixed it for short time but it will come back. you can buy a code reader pretty cheap and check yourself they are pretty easy to use and good to have on hand regardless. or just go to a different mechanic if the one you are going to wont help.

Re: Badly in need of assistance

What engine/transmission do you have?
I had my 5-45RFE in limp mode before (3rd gear), but eventhough it accelerates less, it is still going well. If the transmission goes into limp mode, there should be a P0700 code stored in the PCM and a code reader should give you the code which is set in the TCM part of the PCM.
There could eventually be a slipping clutch inside the transmission, but again, the fault code should give more clarity.

Okay I'll admit it, I only know it's a 3.7 5 spd automatic. That's about all I can give you on the transmission
