Just remember that if your motor is idling too low, your measured voltage at the alternator will be low as well, and it is not necessarily a problem with the alternator itself. You'll have to rev up to a couple thousand rpm when testing if you are suffering from an erratic idle.

I would be tempted to do the battery swap FIRST, then muck around with measuring voltages if need be...

I did not know that. Thanks. Hopefully Advanced Auto will just give me a new battery without trying to test it.

Thank you sir. I think I'll go about it this way.

Re: Battery Causes Stalling?

Brand new battery in and it still stalled out. RPMs were jumping around while driving. When just sitting (foot off brake and gas) the car jumped up to 1000 and jerked forward.

Someone mentioned to me that the "idle settings" need to be reset, but I've never heard of that and don't think that's correct.

Getting really frustrated as there were some other things that I was hoping to get fixed this week and this problem just comes out of nowhere.

Any ideas? Thanks.

At this point, you may be better off taking it in somewhere to get it properly diagnosed - someplace that can read sensor data in real-time to see what is causing the problem. There are so many things that can cause idling problems, you may just end up randomly throwing parts at it and without any DTCs to guide you, data logging as the problem is occurring is your best chance to get it figured out.

I believe some of the 4.7s are known to have Throttle Position Sensor problems, that may cause behavior like this. I also believe they are fairly cheap and easy to replace. If you are going to try and tackle it yourself, this may be a good place to start....but I'm not sure.

Re: Battery Causes Stalling?

The multimeter seemed to indicate the alternator was working fine...

It's already at the mechanic. He's also claiming idle settings need to be reset.

I also did the TPS wiggle that has been discussed on here at length and didn't get any feedback.

Thanks for everyone's help. I'll report back.

Re: Battery Causes Stalling?

Just wanted to report back because it turns out the PCM reset was only a temporary fix. I started getting a rough idle when stopped and would sometimes stall out. Bought a new TPS for $28 and idle is now perfect and car appears to shift better as well. Very pleased.

hi, ive recently bought a 05 4.7 JGC WH which is stalling when coming to a stop. i too suspected the battery at first cause the stalling really started going from intermittent to worrying after a battery removal/re-install.

so far it idles fine. just the stalling when comming to a light or stop start city traffic.
how is the fix so far? is it holding up? anything you would do differently if this same problem cropped up? im looking to arder my own parts & fix myself cause the only dealer here doesnt really have a good rep.
thanks
