Hey guys,
I own a 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4x4 Limited.
I was just about to leave when the first problem I came across was that I hit the unlock button on my remote (attached to key), when I did this, the Jeep acted as if it unlocked, but when I pulled the handle it simultaneously pulled the stem back down to lock position, so I hit the unlock again, this time I was able to open the door.
In doing so, normally the dash lights (LCD screen that shows, driver door open and also the mileage) would light up, but this did not happen. I then proceeded by sticking the key into the ignition and turning.. but the engine wouldn't turn, not even a click from the starter.
I then had my neighbor come out and try to boost my Jeep with his vehicle, this time, with the key out of the ignition, the dash LCD lights came on, but they were flashing with the tune of the, "door ajar" beep... I think attempted to stick the key into the ignition and turn it to start my Jeep, this time I got rapid clicks. So I pulled my key out, left it alone while assuming my battery was getting charged for about 10 minutes and attempted it again, still just rapid clicks from the starter.
While underneath the hood and my driver door open, every time the, "door ajar" beep sounded, I would hear and feel small clicks in one of the fuse boxes. I attempted to remove each large fuse and examine them, they looked like they were in great condition, no burn marks.
Also I've unbolted and unplugged the positive and ground cables then re-seated them and bolted them back down. They're both clean as a whistle as well.. I mean everything under the hood looks beautifully clean to be honest.
So after a totality of about 20 minutes and a few attempts to turn my Jeep on, I finally gave up as it was becoming dark out. What I also noticed is that when I hit the lock button on the remote, normally the doors lock, simultaneously my exterior lights would flash, and my Jeep would honk indicating that it has been locked and security alarm is activated. But none of that happened, only the doors locked.
1. I think it's the starter because of the no-clicking at first (just like my Infiniti did when I had a bad starter)
2. I think it's the battery only because the starter was clicking, loudly, and rapidly but for some reason the battery isn't holding charge from the boost it was receiving.
Has anyone experienced this? Is there a reason why the battery nearly dead being that it is allowing me to unlock and lock my Jeep?
I unfortunately do not have a voltmeter, I could ask my neighbor tomorrow though..
What is mind boggling is that just 2 hours prior I was able to go to the gym, 45-60 minutes later hop back into my Jeep and go right back home without any hesitation @ start up. Then after that my Jeep just doesn't start?!
I doubt anything got loose.. I haven't hit any pot holes and the Jeep has only been in my possession for about 5 months now, primarily using it to drive within my town, not even on the highway yet.
