Battery light still on

I have a 2007 WK with a 3.7L

I was driving home from work Monday night when the battery light came on. I work at Napa so the next day I brought in my battery and altenator. Both tested bad. So I thought it was an easy fix, and replaced them both. After I did that the light will not go off, I did an on vehicle test and it won't test the altenator saying there is no output. I've replaced the connector on the altenator. Traced all wires checked every ground, checked every fuse. Nothing looks bad. I put a volt meter on and the altenator is only outputting 12.4 volts. Anyone have anything else they recommend trying to fix this problem?

Re: Battery light still on

Checked the output of my alternator: 14.5 volts. Battery output: 12.8 volts. Probably your alternator have not enough power to charge the battery.

its a brand new altenator, I'll take it in to work tomorrow and test it, would anything else be causing the altenator not to output 14.5 volts? Wires or anything I'm just stumped and have no clue what to do.

Re: Battery light still on

If you measure the voltage directly on the output connector of your alternator it should read over 14 volts, if you get less, than your alternator is not working well. I tested mine on the connector and on the battery, 14.5 volts on both, turned lights and ac on to check for variances, everything smooth, constant 14.5 volts.

Re: Battery light still on

The voltage regulator for the alternator sits inside the PCM. If the voltage regulator is faulty, it can regulate a too low voltage, which finally will not charge the battery. Check the wiring and the connectors on the PCM. Check that there is no moisture or corrosion on the pins. Also check the alternator ground wire (donīt know if your jeep has one, but it can be mounted to the engine or to the body) The cable end should be checked for corrosion or eventual loose wire.
If that seems to be ok, then there is a good change that the voltage regulator itself is at fault. That means a new PCM or send it in for repair
