OK, I bow to your superior automotive knowledge.
I just bought a new-to-me 2005 WK Overland, and hoo whee it's sweet! My 04 is not quite the same, but this 05 has a shake that is pretty bad at 65+. In looking over the Carfax it appears the vehicle was in a side rear collision. I found the side which was involved in the collision to have a leak from the axle. I replaced o-rings today.
With this wonderful 8.25 rear end, are there issues with axles getting bent inside impacts, or say hitting a curb or something?
Is it possible the hub bent?
Here's the deal, 98000 miles, 05 Overland, QuadraDriveII. The shaking throughout the vehicle seems to originate from the back, and it gets progressively worse from 65+. It got so bad at 80, I wouldn't go any faster.
When my wife was driving it home I got behind her and could see the drivers rear suspension "hop"at 65+. The passenger side did not "hop". According to Carfax the vehicle was involved in a right rear collision, but there is some evidence that the drivers rear may have been the one involved (paint issue on the rear door).
I took the (seriously) cheap tires to a reputable tire shop and had them balanced appropriately, and while it helped, the issue is still evident.
I have narrowed it down to either a bent axle or possibly a really bad rear shock set. OK, maybe the hub.
Anyone? Anyone got some awesome experience with the same thing and want to totally help me out by telling what fixed it?
Thanks for any help!
