Re: BS Gas Mileage

So i think i might have improved my mileage slightly by about 2 mpg. I took apart my intake to get to the throttle body and it had some build up so i sprayed it with cleaner and wiped it as best as i can without taking it apart. I also sprayed the MAP sensor and i can honestly say i notice a difference in acceleration and my display is also showing about 13.5+ mpg compared to 10-11. I did all this around 2 this afternoon and did about 50 miles of driving since i reset it so it could still be changing.

Re: BS Gas Mileage

I have a 2006 5.7 GC, my wife a 2005 4.7 Durango. I Never get over 19 on the highway where she can get 21, I get 13 she gets 14 in the city. The GC is much smaller and has MDS, but the Dodge always wins with MPG.

I've actually never touched my throttle body. I should probably do this considering it's quick and simple.

Just be careful if your not sure how to do it. I couldnt figure out how to take it off completely so i just cleaned the outside and opened it and got as far in as i can. Give your MAP sensor a quick spray too.

Re: BS Gas Mileage

I'm only averaging about 14 with my Hemi

Re: BS Gas Mileage

If you're in the neighborhood of ~13-14 mpg in stop and go city driving, you're about "normal" for a Hemi. Remember these things weigh in excess of 4700 lbs. without you and your fuel/cargo. Everytime you have to get that mass moving from a stop, it takes a little bite out of your fuel economy......more stop and go equals less mileage. More "mixed" driving (city/rural/long straights) with fewer stops should push mileage up in the ~15-17 mpg range. Driving style and improper tire pressure are probably among the biggest causes of poor fuel economy.

Got my fuel economy back! I haven't seen this mileage since I bought it. I am amazed at how much the fan affected the rest of the engine. It runs so smooth now, that I can't hear it. Guess its time for an exhaust now!

That's with a lift, roof rack, and 265-70-17 tires, after about 150 miles of mixed driving.
