CEL flashed a few times, went off. 06 WK 3.7

Hello folks. Maybe someone can shed some light. Here's what happened.

1) Was entering the on-ramp to the interstate.

2) CEL flashed several times.

3) CEL went away, has not came back on.

4) No rough idling.

5) all gauges looked normal.

6) tried the key trick to pull codes (did not work).

Thoughts?

Normally a flashing CEL is indicative of a misfire, that could cause a lot of damage downstream (catalytic converter specifically).

Normally, you should get a code as to which bank is the culprit.

When you say the key dance didn't work, did it report 'Done', or did the information display not say anything?

I would start by pulling the codes with a proper scanner and see if anything is stored.

UPDATE:

Pulled a code P0304 "Pending". Cylinder 4 misfire detected.

Any help, is appreciated!

It drives fine. No stalling or bogging down. I still want to address this.

Think new plugs and coils would do the trick??

It's been a while.

It has 115,000........I bought it with 52K, and have not changed the plugs or coils since I've owned it.

I would definitely swap out the plugs and see what shape the old ones are in. That alone could solve your problem.

If it doesn't, that's when you can start swapping coils to see if the misfire follows the coil or stays with the cylinder.
