Check engine light - Shift module/trans. control

Yesterday my wife calls and says there's a light on the dash in the jeep, looks like check engine. Sure enough, it's the engine light. First time since we bought it. I'm thinking maybe it's just resetting after I changed the battery the day before. Nope.
Took it to auto parts store to run codes and U0404 and P0700 pop up. Electronic shift module and transmission control somethin or another. Look up how much the part is...... Oh no problem, I've got $700 in my pocket cause it's Tuesday! Wrong.
To YouTube I go, caught a video on how to clean the circuit board in the shifter. So very carefully I took the shifter out, disassembled it, cleaned the circuit board and put it all back in.
Engine light gone!!!! Don't know how long it will last, but just saved myself some serious $$!
It's pretty easy to do, just take your time. If I can do it, anyone can. The wk is approaching 100k miles so I'm about to have it serviced anyway, but glad I don't have to pay for a new ESM....yet.
I guess my point is don't freak out if your jeep throws these codes, just do your research and you can save yourself some time and money by getting your hands a little dirty.

Good catch. These WKs have more gremlins than vehicle I've ever owned. You tube and forums have been our saviors more times than I can count.
