Cleaned throttle body, now getting DTC's

I recently pulled off the throttle body on my 2006 Overland 5.7l to clean it. It had a good amount of buildup so I scraped most of it off with a plastic scraper, then used carb cleaner on a rag to get rid of the stubborn stuff. Never sprayed into it or anything like that.
Put it back on, all seemed well.
Next day, check engine light came on and I had 2 DTC's. P0507 (idle control system too high) and P2112 (ETC is unable to open during the PCM test)

I disconnected the battery to reset everything. Next day, check engine light on again, same 2 codes.

The Jeep appears to be running fine. nice smooth acceleration, plenty of power. Any idea why it would throw these codes at me?

I did pull off the intake to be able to watch the throttle body. I did notice that when I first turn on the key, the throttle body opens up a little bit and then closes. is the throttle body supposed to do a full sweep from closed to open and back or is it normal to just move a small amount?

I just cant believe that cleaning the TB without spraying anything into it would cause any harm to it and would hate to replace the TB and it be something else.

have you tried un/re-plugging the elec. connection? did you tighten it fully?the "o" ring squishes a good bit,so as long as you only use a nut driver you can put a little torque to it. I dont remember the code it gets, but i've forgotten to re attach the plug for the IAT (near pass side head) and got a code before.

Re: Cleaned throttle body, now getting DTC's

I checked the connection today, it was down all of the way. I undid it and plugged it back in, everything is clean.

I drove about 20 miles from home to pick something up, and on the way back the ETC light and traction light came on and I couldnt accelerate. This was while I had cruise on doing 60 mph and noticed it slowed to 50 and then stayed there.

Turned the jeep off, restarted and the problem was gone.
drove home and pulled codes again.
This time it added P2118 and P2110 to the existing P2112 and P0507 codes that were there.

Starting to think I must have gotten something into somewhere I shouldnt have or it didnt like me moving the throttle plate by hand. Just strange that it seems to run just fine. Might be time for me to start looking for another throttle body, haha.

I guess I should have just never touched it in the first place. I even thought I was careful with it, making sure not to spray anything into it, or have excess on the rag where it would drip and run.
Can't believe they would be so sensitive. Bring back cable driven TB's! haha.

The Hemi TBs are the bane of my existence. I've ported a few only to find out after the fact that they were defective.

Happen to have any good ones to sell? Ported or not.

Re: Cleaned throttle body, now getting DTC's

Pulled my TB the other day- cleaned it the same way, scraped it then used brake cleaner sparingly to get the rest, did try to avoid moving the plate too much- anyways reinstalled and running like a champ, seems funny tout TB went bad just when you handled it...

Re: Cleaned throttle body, now getting DTC's

there is NO problem moving the throttle plate, thats how you get it really clean, unless the ignition is on/its running. I did that once and damn near lost a finger! And it threw a code..something about forced throttle...i have cleaned mine about once a month for almost 2 years with no problem, i dont do it when its warm(engine) just in case cuz the carb cleaner comes out so cold.

Re: Cleaned throttle body, now getting DTC's

I clean mine with a toothbrush and carb cleaner every few months. Now that I have the catch can installed, hopefully I won't have to bother with it anymore though. Never had an issue with codes after the cleaning, and I scrub with that toothbrush HARD and let the butterfly valve move freely. I guess we'll see by my next oil change.
