Clogged catalytic converter problems

So I'm having an oil leak on my 2006 Grand Cherokee. I believe my catalytic converter is clogged because we scanned the engine error and it's saying bad converter. So I think the pressures not being released would that cause oil to leak above the cat converter and vaccum hose or what would be the problems? Help please

Re: Clogged catalytic converter problems

So, what is/are the code(s)? it could also be the O2 Sensors and/or exhaust leaks. How many miles on the vehicle, what engine are we talking about, and can you tell where the oil leak coming from, how long it has been leaking and how bad it is....minor/major or ???

Re: Clogged catalytic converter problems

The code for a bad converter only tells that the converter is not doing its job as suppost to. It uses the O2 sensor signal before and after the cat, to see if it does its job properly. Having this code does not necessarily mean that the converter is clogged. As jeepgcoman said, it could even be a bad O2 sensor or maybe oil in the connector of the sensor.
If a converter would be clogged, then it would not cause any oil leaks, but it would cause low power of the engine and probably limiting the rpm.
You really have to look at where the leak is coming from, difficult to tell anything sensible without looking at the jeep.

Re: Clogged catalytic converter problems

I would check the O2 sensors 1-1 and 1-2 (bank 1 before and after cat) voltage. The 1-1 sensor should change its voltage rapidly from between 0.2-0.8V, but the 1-2 sensor should be quite stable. If it fluctuates rapidly as well, then the cat is not doing its job anymore. Also check if the fuel injection works in closed loop after warming up the engine.
