Re: Crappy idle

Matt that piece changed my Idle when I removed the vacuum lines. If you look at it the line one the left one goes directly into the throttle body. Since the vacuum is leaking the values are probably all crazy, and your motor needs the correct value to run right. Change it
Maybe try plugging the line first?

Re: Crappy idle

Madanio24- I read your other post and I give you an A for effort! I would have sold the truck by now. 2 questions where is the PVC valve on the 3.7 and what does grounding the throttle body do for you? Thanks and good luck!

Re: Crappy idle

Thanks. I love the truck but fed up with these problems. the pcv valve is to the left of the oil filler neck. and grounding the throttle body did nothing at all for me since it is a cable thtottle body.

stash- the lines are indeed vacuum lines. what i did to test it was unplug the vacumn lines from the piece and i plugged them up to totally bypass that piece. and the engine still ran the same. do these lines need to be connected to each other or if there was a leak would plugging them get rid of the problem if there was a problem with that piece. Thanks for trying it on your rig.

Re: Crappy idle

That looks to be an evaporator solenoid. Not certain though. Maybe someone can chime in if this could be related.

Re: Crappy idle

I was thinking like you said maybe try connecting them? I haven't been active in a shop for a few years, but I wish I was there with a scanner. does the 3.7 have an IAC on it? Idle air Control

Re: Crappy idle

Yes. thats been changed also lol. So is the purge valve supposed to make some whisteling noise?

No check engine codes at all. i dont see any other possible vacumn leak locations. the engine runs good when cold then when it warms up the rpms drop down to 500 and i can see the engine actually shaking in the bay. I will take a video if you like.

Im trying one last thing, going to run a premium fuel tune.

The only things else i can think of is coils, but they were all in the correct resisitance when i checked. Maybe injector, had all of them professionally cleaned though.

Here's that post I was talking about....worth a look.

I have three mid-nineties Chysler vehicles, two Jeeps and a ram truck. I have finally learned over these many tortured years that the very first place to start when experiencing random behavior is the PCM plug connections. The pin sockets have sprung gold alloy fingers that get relaxed over time and can cause all kinds of intermittent problems, from random stalling or ignition cut-out to rough idling, to improper pressure regulation in your transmission (which is controlled by the PCM) as well as poor voltage regulation.

I learned my lesson the hard way after many years of chasing down random gremlins on all three of my vehicles, replacing all kinds of sensors, IAC, CPS and such, thinking the problem is gone only to return in hours, days or weeks, change of weather and such, and for many others like me this will be the last thing they try that finally resolves their problem(s). So to all others I advise that it should be the first thing they try before opening their wallets.

I wrote a detailed write-up of this problem and how to repair it (for free) at jeepforum dot com under the thread "Infamous stalling problem - The REAL fix", but in short it involves pulling out the plugs and bending in the fingers with a sharpened dental tool. The two photos attached show 1) two plugs, the one on the left repaired and the one on the right prior to repair, fingers visible on the left, none visible on the right, and 2) the method of tool insertion. Each pin socket, the actual metal shell crimped onto the wire, has two internal gold alloy contact fingers. You need to get your needle or tool behind that finger, between the finger and the shell, and continue inserting the tool inward to bend the finger gently inward and restore contact pressure. If you do not have good eyes, the proper tool and good coordination I would recommend asking your dentist if he makes house calls, or combine appointments on your next cleaning:-)

A final note - Make sure you disconnect the battery before removing those plugs, and since that will reset the PCM you need to drive for a bit to be sure the problem is resolved... you could still have other issues as the root cause, but this one needs to be ruled out first.
