Dash Lights

2005 Grand Cherokee 5.7Hemi w/ 115k miles.
Just driving along and all the sudden all the dash board indicators come on (as though I had just put the key in the ignition and turned it to run). The engine doesn't hesitate or anything. Then all the lights go off as though nothing odd had happened. I just keep driving.

This has happened about 3 times in the past month. Any ideas?

Re: Dash Lights

Could be the battery connection or the battery itself. How old is your battery?

Re: Dash Lights

Battery is 1 year old. It is at the lower limit of recommended size though. (When the battery was replaced, the thought was that the vehicle was about to be sold and hence minimize the investment in new battery).

Also recently I am having a speaker "pop" noise when starting. The radio is off. When the key is turned to crank the engine, there is a pop from the speaker. (A lot like unplugging a bass amp with the volumes turned up)

Otherwise the engine cranks over strong (even with the cold snap Kansas City is having) and everything else (door locks, headlights, radio) seems fine.

This subject has been thoroughly discussed, especially more so recently. It's either your ignition switch or your multifunction stalk that needs to be replaced. Both are easy fixes, though the MF stalk is $110 and the Ignition Switch can be had for like $25.

My '05 with 155K was doing the same thing. Replaced the ignition switch and so far everything seems to be OK.
