Question disabled 08 laredo - help please

So I have an 08 Laredo with about 71000 mi on it. Just bought it used around Christmas. No problems...until This past Saturday night. Went out with my wife for Valentines Day and when leaving the restaurant the Jeep wouldn't start. So I read a bunch of forums and threads about this annoying issue (seems somewhat common) that the wire to the solenoid easily dislodges/builds up corrosion/gets burnt, blah blah. Seems like an easy fix.

I looked under the jeep and can't seem to locate the starter (feel pretty dumb about that one). So my questions are:

a - Where is the starter?
b - Am I able to reach the wires to the solenoid on the ground or do I need to lift it?
c - If that terminal comes off that easy, can you switch the type of terminal?

Re: disabled 08 laredo - help please

Welcome to the garage.
To know where the starter is, we first need to know which engine you have.
Besides that, do you hear a slight click from the engine compartment when trying to start? If you do, then the problem can be with the solenoid wire you mentioned, or even the starter solenoid itself. Also check the ground wires. If you donīt hear the click, then the starter relay is not working. That could be the relay itself, park/neutral safety switch, wiring or ignition switch.

Re: disabled 08 laredo - help please

Sorry about that I should have mentioned it's the 3.7 L. I hear a slight click when I'm inside, it almost sounds like something trying to turn on? definitely not like the "old" clicking or grinding I have heard on some other/older cars with bad starters. I haven't listened under the hood while somebody else turns the key yet, but I plan on tinkering with it this afternoon after I wake up (3rd shifter) probably not long though as it is only single digits here in lovely OH.

If it is the relay is there a quick test for that? - seems a little more accessable

Re: disabled 08 laredo - help please

If you hear a slicht click from under the hood when trying to start, then its the starter relay in the PDC (power distribution center). Eventhough it clicks, its no guarantee that its contacts inside are good, so still a good idea to swap the starter relay with the AC clutch relay, which sits just next to it. (see attached manual page).
Also attached the location of the starter motor. Its mounted to the bellhousing of the transmission.

Well I got it to start today on the trailer, but I put it on my uncle's lift anyway. I must say I do not like the starter placement or the type of connector they used. I cleaned the terminal on the solenoid the best I could with steel wool. Also swapped those relays since I had it inside, didn't change anything so I put them back. All seems fine for now. Thanks for the help.
