Dreaded Water in Footwell

Hello.

I have alot of water in the passenger footwell of my 2005 WK. It is a RHD and I am in the UK. I have peeled back the carpet and the underlay is soaked. The carpet/underlay that runs up the side of the transmission tunnel is perfectly dry - I have read about the A/C drainage tube issue and the related fix of drilling a hole behind the A/C pipes up by the glove box/centre console but I am wondering whether if that is my problem then the carpet/underlay in that area on the side of the transmission tunnel or under the glovebox should be wet - but it isnt - see photo where the dry underlay is shown a much lighter colour.

Anyway from the engine bay side I can see some dampness where some pipes enter the cabin - not sure what those pipes are.

We have had persistent heavy rain here and I have been though some deep puddles so maybe that is it. I am going to cut out the soaked underlay, dry out the carpet and floor then drive around for a few days with the floor exposed to see if the water returns.

I should add I do not have a sunroof so I dont have that known drainage issue. By the way I cannot find any drainage holes in the floor, and neither can i find where the AC drains from under the car so I can poke some wire in to see if there is a blockage - maybe it drains into the frame so it is inaccessible?

Any ideas would be much appreciated. by the way, anyone know what the curved black plastic cover thing is on the floor - see photo?

thanks

steve

Those hoses are heater core line's. On the rhd jeeps they switch the heater core and steering system sides. Does it smell like coolant?

Do you have a moonroof? Check the drain lines in the roof, they tend to clog and then rain will collect and run down the pillars and collect on the floors.

Had this happen to mine recently, cleaned the drain tubes out, and all is good.

Thanks for the replies.

The liquid doesnt smell like coolant and seems to be just water. The car has no sunroof so that isnt the cause.

The door seals and windscreen seal all look OK. I see the door seal at the bottom edge of the door has a couple of holes in it and i presume this is to allow any water that gets into the seal to drain. Also the carpet that is next to the cill is dry.

Is it possible for water to get in at the rear of the car and then travel forward and find its way into the front passenger footwell?

I am surprised I could not find any drain holes in the floor of the front passenger side.

thanks
