Drivetrain shudder

First post - just picked up a 2008 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited 4.7 QD-II 81k miles in great shape. When accelerating I feel a slight shudder at around 40-45 mph and 60-65 that goes away when lifting the accelerator. No vibration when coasting at that speed or when the engine/transmission is cold. I am suspecting it is something to do with the torque converter locking (or failing to fully lock).

I've searched and found posts with similar symptoms but no resolutions noted. Dealer where I bought the car says it sounds normal (right) but I have an appointment next week for them to drive it and pull the codes if any.

Thoughts or suggestions?

Re: Drivetrain shudder

If the torque converter clutch wouldn´t lock, then you should get a fault code (P0740) and the check engine light. There was a writeup from one of the members on here who had driveline vibration for a very long time and finally solved the problem after changing the rear prop shaft. See here:Drivetrain noise and vibration solved.

Re: Drivetrain shudder

Thanks - no CEL and no codes that I could pull from my obd2 reader. I dropped it off for service today and will report what comes of it.

Re: Drivetrain shudder

It turns out there was a problem with the torque converter locking up. T/C replaced and no more shudder.
