Question emergency brake 2006 Grand Cherokee

Emergency brake cable feels like it is detached in the cab and handle offers no resistance. Where do I start to look for the location of the problem? Thank you!

there are several places to make adjustments to the brake cable. let me try to find that page in the service manual for you

Re: emergency brake 2006 Grand Cherokee

Hopefully it just needs an adjustment and hasn't broken off anywhere...I seem to recall having to take out seats and a fair amount of trim to get at either the front or rear sections of the parking brake cable.

Also, it is not uncommon for the parking break shoes to cause a loose feeling at the lever (either through improper adjustment, insufficient material, or something not put together quite right!)

I would get at the rear brake shoes and see what's going on back there before trying to get at the cable as it travels through the car. I would bet it is more likely a problem at the e-brake itself, rather than the cable.

If it feels completely loose your probably looking at a failed cable, I've had one where the ball on the end of the cable into the handle assembly pulled off the cable. I would start in the car by removing the center console and the rear seat base and make sure all that is intact.

If you still have some tension its just really high I would be looking at an adjustment, personally.
