Re: Fr diff concern?? Elsd, qd ii

When i have it in the air, i rotate the wheels and they go in the same direction. If i try and rotate them in opposite directions it is hard, it goes but is tough...but when warm is is just fine.

Re: Fr diff concern?? Elsd, qd ii

New twist on this...maybe. We have had the coldest weather of the season this week...no nose, no groan, no binding...all normal. Until this morning back at it again. Also unplugging the sensor did nothing...

Re: Fr diff concern?? Elsd, qd ii

do you have any noise when driving ?
we have also cold weather (-5;-10°C) I'm experiencing the same as you
after some miles it's normal again (probably a temp issue of the oil )..but
I'm also getting some slow bearing noise at 80km/h when speeding up sudenly or speeding down do you have something alike ?
The mech from my favorite stealership told me it's the diff bearings ( i'm not sure it's true )

Nice to hear that it's working ok, probably we should use 1 a month the low range , like on the old XJ

Re: Fr diff concern?? Elsd, qd ii

I'm having this same exact issue. Mine does it when turning whether its cold or warm. I have replaced the front diff fluid twice in the last couple of weeks and BOTH the cv axles today ($70 each from o'reilly's). Not sure what to try next, I took it to the dealership last year when it first started doing it (it was intermittent then) and they were clueless. I really hope it's something simple, and not a new diff!

Re: Fr diff concern?? Elsd, qd ii

I have had it go away now for a week and then come right back. When it is warm it is fine, but first thing out of the garage, almost every time. In the air they rotate the same direction, like the clutches are engaged. If you try to hold one or turn them in different directions it is tough, and can feel a ratchet feeling. Function is great off road, and good when warm. It is the clutches inside. From what i can tell about the design at a stand still it should be open and free, mine is not.

Re: Fr diff concern?? Elsd, qd ii

I know on the getrag rear axles on caddy's (vettes too) when tuning and hearing that ratchtting noise the spider gears are worn out on them. I dont know how the front axles are built on these rig's, but it sounds like you def have a issue. A fix that may work is to change the fluid out and put a lsd additive in it. Drive it in a figure 8 and circles for 15mins. Change the fluid again and do it again. That was a fix for certain gm vehicles. Just an idea.

If not, sound like the clutches are stuck or not disengaging. Rebuild time!!!

Re: Fr diff concern?? Elsd, qd ii

Not trying to steal your thread dude, but just wanted to give a quick update. I came across a post here that recommended changing the t-case fluid and adding a little friction modifier. I did that and was able to get the noise to completely stop tonight. I had to do figure 8's in my cul-de-sac for like 10 minutes, but it went away completely. We'll see what tomorrow holds.
