I have a 2005 JGC Limited 5.7 Hemi, all stock besides a K&N air filter. 89,000 miles. Original suspension.
This is what i am experiencing. While either backing out OR pulling into a drive I am getting a clanging noise from the driver front. I took my jeep into a local shop today and had them take a look at it. They were able to make the jeep make the noise once but only with it on the ground (under a load). They could not find anything loose at all. I inquired about the sway bar ends etc. But the shop didnt really say much other than it could be a strut or possible drive part like a CV. All im looking for is some direction to start from. Any advice is appreciated!
No i cant make a video of the noise that the jeep makes when making slow manuvers. I ended up replacing the sway bar end links but the noise is still happening. A mopar mechanic advised me to re-torque the axle nut to 100ft pounds. He said because the jeep is all wheel drive, it puts constant stress on the front axle splines which loosens the axle nut causing a clang while doing slow parking lot manuvers. Has anyone heard of torqueing the axle nut to remeady a front end noise?
Jeep WJ source of cracking noise found 1 - YouTube This is the exact sound that is coming from my WK Jeep Grand Cherokee from the front driver side. I found this youtube video, its a WJ and coming from the rear of this vehicle, but Im telling ya I have the same sound coming from my drivers side front!! I just ordered new sway bar bushings. I have already replaced the end links.
Final update! I have replaced the sway bar frame bushings, along with the end links. The clang/cracking noise is gone. I have the 33mm sway bar which requires a newer updated frame bushing clamp. I got the bushings and clamps from the dealer for $50.
