Front end noise - help

Hey people, hoping you can help me out.

I have intermittent sound coming from the front end. Only happens when hitting rough road/potholes but not all the time. The sound is like metal hitting metal. I put the car on a lift and everything seems tight. I tried moving the wheels but all the joints seems ok.

Any ideas? Appreciate your help.

Ps the wk has the 3.7 and has 49k miles on it. I haven't replaced any suspension or bushings yet.

Have you checked your shocks?

No, what is the best way to check them? They are not leaking.

They don't have to be leaking to be shot.

I don't know what the best method is to check them today. I did it the old school way... the bounce test.

How are your front tires wearing... any excessive wear or cupping (jagged) on the inside or outside treads ribs?

Tires are brand new. Old tires were worn out evenly.

Ride does not appear to bouncy when driving.

Re: Front end noise - help

I suggested checking the shocks due to it sounding like it's bottoming out against the stops.

But you say it's more of a metal to metal sound. If you can't detect any metal to metal rub marks when you're underneath looking at it then maybe you have a loose part banging around somewhere?

Re: Front end noise - help

I had a similar noise. Wound up being the top nut on the strut itself came a little loose. Worth a shot!
