Grand Cherokee 5.7L 2005 No Start Issue

This seems to be a common problem but I've yet to hear a definitive solution to it.

I have a 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee 5.7l limited and I have intermittent starting issues. It always occurs after I've driven it and the engine heats up and it seems to happen most often when the weather is warm/hot.

When I turn the key I get nothing but a click noise and the engine doesn't even begin to turn over. I've replaced the starter and the battery but the issue hasn't been solved. Check engine light isn't on either.

When this happens usually if I turn the key enough times or wait a little bit it will just randomly start up like normal.

Just wondering if anyone has figured this out yet?

Additionally: These may or may not be related issues but I get the airbag light on the dash and the passenger airbag light coming on and off at random all the time. Also when it's hot outside I get a message on my dash that says service park assist

Battery is new.

I noticed that the starter had a heat shield on it when I changed it I'm assuming this is because it's right next to the exhaust. I wonder if the heat shield isn't working well enough and maybe the solenoid is getting too hot?

Just because its new, doesnt mean it works.

My dealer put a new battery in my jeep because they felt it was causing my issues, issues reappeared after 2 days, they spent hours diaging the issues. Long story short, about 2 weeks, $1000s in warrenty work and rental car fees later, they checked the battery again for the hell of it, low and behold, bad cell. Put in another battery, jeeps been fine for over a year now.

Re: Grand Cherokee 5.7L 2005 No Start Issue

This issue is mostly caused by corroded connections at the starter. It's a pretty common fix for removing the connections, cleaning with contact cleaner, and reinstalling. I had the same issue (except mine only happened in cold weather) and when I had my block heater installed (which required removal of the starter), I told the dealer to clean the connections. That was 2yrs ago, and haven't had the issue since.

How can I get to these wires? I had a look at it was almost impossible to get to. Any help would be great. Thanks

Re: Grand Cherokee 5.7L 2005 No Start Issue

Can't offer much advice on how to do it. But I know I've read a few threads on here about folks that did it. I'm glad the dealer did it for me when I had the block heater installed because all the pics I've seen show pretty narrow clearances and if I remember correctly, the connections are even harder to reach because they're on the top side of the starter.

Thanks so much for getting back to my post. Just alot of engine and I and do not have small hands or arms. Will try taking off the inside covering on the wheel wells to see if I can at least see the wires and check for corrosion.
