Grand Cherokee wk not starting, Immobiliser fault??

Hi,
I have a 2006 WK 3.0 crd that will not start.
The last time it was running it started for a few seconds then cut out, apparently if you use an invalid key it will do this. I have tried both keys but neither will turn it over at all.
I have bypassed the starter relay and the starter turns over fine.
Code reader showed faults on glow plug module and gear shifter module, both these parts have been replaced and the fault codes have not come back.
I have had an auto locksmith out to it who reprogrammed both keys and the computer said both keys were then registered ok.
Ive noticed that most of the time the red led immobiliser light stays on but it should only stay on for 3 seconds.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Ive already spent hundreds on it fixing the two modules and locksmith call out so this is my last chance before getting it towed to the rip off dealers.

Leave the battery undone for a while. See if that helps

Thanks for the reply, yes I've tried that, I've also tried a different battery on it.
Thanks anyway

Re: Grand Cherokee wk not starting, Immobiliser fault??

Just to be sure what is happening now, does the starter not crank the engine at all when trying to start? And when you bypassed the starter relay, it does crank it? Did you try bypassing the starter relay with the ignition in run?

Re: Grand Cherokee wk not starting, Immobiliser fault??

No the starter will not crank by The key, but it will crank fine if I touch the contact in the starter relay, I tried doing this with the ignition on but it doesn't fire up, so I'm presuming the immobiliser is not letting the injectors open,
The immobiliser light stays on most of the time but I have read it should go out after 3 seconds.
I've had a locksmith out to reprogram both keys, his computer said they were both programmed successfully, but still won't start :-(
Thanks

If the key "reader" on the ignition switch fails to read the key chip, it won't start. The reader is an antennae like coil that goes around the key. You might check that.

Re: Grand Cherokee wk not starting, Immobiliser fault??

Eventhough there can be an immobilizer fault, the immobilizer will not prevent the engine from cranking. I would more think of a problem with the ignition switch in this case.

Re: Grand Cherokee wk not starting, Immobiliser fault??

Thanks for the replies,
I have noticed that if I disconnect the battery or any relays for a while then reconnect, the starter does kick in very briefly (half a second) just the once. It's as if there is something saying don't let the engine run.
I was originally thinking along the lines of ignition switch or reader so might be a good plan to try get a used barrel switch and reader to eliminate them.
Thanks again guys

Re: Grand Cherokee wk not starting, Immobiliser fault??

Just had the grand Cherokee on a newer snap on code reader and it is showing fault code u0167 lost communication with Intrusion receiver control module.
I'm presuming this is an immobiliser fault as the red light on the instrument panel is staying on. If I lock the car with the remote then unlock and quickly turn the key the starter briefly kicks in but then nothing.
Does anyone know where the intrusion receiver control module is so I can check the wiring
Thanks
