Horn sounding continuously

While I was on deployment, my friend took care of my Jeep for me. He told me that the battery died and he replaced it, and then one day the horn started going crazy and sounding continuously. He pulled the fuse for the time being.

Fast forward 8 months and I am home and tonight I put the fuse back in. Nothing happened until I closed the hood, shut the garage door and start to go inside, and the horn starts blaring continuously. I have the fuse pulled again for the time being.

The battery was replaced in early September and the horn issue started randomly in October (I got back in November).

I haven't seen anything online that fits my exact symptoms, but other people that had similar problems were told to:

1. check the alarm for proper operation (mine seems to work fine- light blinks on dash when locked, doors lock/unlock fine),
2. check cruise control (mine works fine)
and
3. check air bag light on dash (no airbag light on for me).

Re: Horn sounding continuously

I'm guessing its the clock spring because i have the same problem. It started one day i was out driving and it just went nuts just started honking then it stop so i didn't think anything of it then the one day i went out to my Jeep and hit the unlock button and horn went nuts again for about 30secs. Removed the fuse then the one day i went in for an oil change put the fuse back in thinking it was done and over with and the tech had my jeep up in the air and the SOB went nuts again and scared the shit out of the tech. Also my horn also went off it i pushed the turn signal switch forward just alil. So i went thru process of elimination and came down to the Clock spring seeing as the turn signal runs the it and that is the only plan the horn and turn signal cross paths

Re: Horn sounding continuously

My 05' just went through this same thing. I had to get a relay replaced that had to do with the alarm, horn, turn signals, etc. I will try to find the part number for it. It went nuts on the wife while I was away at a military school so she drove my mazda3 until I got back. We ended up taking it to the stealership and shelled out $1250. $900 just for the relay.

Re: Horn sounding continuously

could be anything, but considering it didnt just start blowing when you plugged the fuse in I would lean towards it being the control side of the relay, something shorting commanding the horn operation. could be anywhere but typically something like this is going to be in the aforementioned clock spring or something aftermarket tapped in.

A couple things to try, 1 simply try pulling back on the horn pad (towards you) not with tons of force, just to see if you can make ANY change. If that doesnt work, start the vehicle and turn the wheel lock to lock and see if that makes any change. If the first suggestion makes changes I would look at contacts in the steering wheel, if the latter makes change I would suspect clockspring. By change in symptom I dont just mean the horn completely shutting off, if it blips off then back on for a second while manipulating things that would be an indication to further inspect there.

You can also pull the column shroud off and disconnect the clockspring... if the horn stops blowing you know the issue is from the clockspring to the horn pad.

Good luck!
