How the heck do you get the o2 sensor out???

SO,Im Trying to replace my downstream o2 sensor, and for the life of me i have no idea of how to go about doing it....There is absolutely no room to get my hand up to unplug the thing let alone get a socket and ratchet on the sensor...Very frustrating. Im hoping I dont need to take the whole y pipe assembly off. Any help would be awesome. By the way its on a 05 grand with the 5.7

From what I can see, those guys at engineering have mounted the o2 sensors directly vetical, so your best bet is too actually raise the vehicle high enough to get some elbow room under there, if it is still to much of a tight fit, you may have to drop some part of the exhaust, last resort, is a shop.

go to autozone and rent the o2 sensor socket. it is super easy to do with the correct tools. the socket will allow you to remove it while it is still plugged in and then remove the plug once you have better access to it

Re: How the heck do you get the o2 sensor out???

Have fun doing this. I was under my jeep for a few hours trying to get them all out. The 2 before the cats were the hardest by far. Ive heard of some people actually custting the wires on the old o2 sensors to get them out easier. I just used an 02 socket with alot of patience.

O2 socket and unplug later. A lift makes it a bit easier, still a PIA though.

lots of patience and will power I used wrenches and the O2 socket to do them all. Also someone with small hands helps alot. Make sure you get the factory upstream sensors the Bosch ones do not heat up fast enough for the computer and will throw a code.
