Re: In regards to humming noise.

Is it a distinct ticking? What does it do in tight turns in either direction? How do your CV boots look?

Re: In regards to humming noise.

Well its kind of funny you say that I was driving around earlier, after this post, and realized that during right hand turns it goes away but left it still stays.

That would be a good way to describe it is a ticking. Yet, it does not really pick up or slow down with the variation of speed. It seems very consistent when I am off the gas and coasting around 30 mph.

Re: In regards to humming noise.

Sounds like a CV axle or as strange as it sounds a wheel bearing possibly. The sound going away in on direction is indicative of a wheel bearing. Usually a CV will click and make noise in both directions. I've had to replace a wheel bearing after swamping a previous XJ.

Re: In regards to humming noise.

Thats what my original though was, but wouldn't a wheel bearing continue to regardless at any speeds?

I will check tomorrow morning more closely so if its clicking while going in both diretions you think its the CV shaft?

Re: In regards to humming noise.

Clicking is more indicative of a CV shaft. Only once or twice have I heard of a CV only making noise in one direction, usually both. On the few bad wheel bearings I've experienced they tend to get louder when at a safe speed of 40-50 mph and you pull the wheel to one way or the other. Usually only make the noise louder or quieter in one direction with the load put on it. After I swamped my XJ and drove 3 hours home listening to the wooooom wooooom woooom the whole way, I pulled the wheel bearing after it sat over a couple days and couldn't turn it by hand. Seized completely. Did you try making tight turns in a parking lot yet? Would help having someone do it while you're outside the jeep.

Re: In regards to humming noise.

I am gunna have to run some further tests to make sure exactly what it is. Its just weird cause I have replaced wheel bearings on previous vehicles. I will jack it up tonight and give it a test. to see for sure if it is the wheel bearing. So we will see how that turns out.
