jeep death shake

My boyfriend and I recently bought a 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited. Now that we have put on new tires and had an alignment done it sometimes does the "Jeep Death Shake" at 55 mph+. As you drive it while it shakes, it will go away. It's not a big deal since we had it looked at when we first bought it and found it has many new parts underneath, but we are going on a trip at the end of the month and the shaking is annoying. In my previous vehicles the shaking was rotors, bad bearings, and axle shafts. Any suggestions on where to start looking? I believe the breaks are fairly new. It has the tow package so the breaks are huge. I don't notice it when stopping, it only happens sometimes when driving at the higher speeds. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!!

Re: jeep death shake

How many miles on the ride? I replaced the front diff. isolator bushings at ~75K on mine. Top one was pretty bad and the others not so much. Much higher miles may toast them all. Also, what are the conditions of the front struts and ball joints? A good alignment shop should catch all these items. All my stuff is new and I know it's good for at least 130 mph, and smooth as glass all the way up.

Re: jeep death shake

what kind of "shake" is it doing? is it a shimmy in the steering wheel?

Did it do it before you replaced the tires?

Re: jeep death shake

I have the same issues. I already changed the front diff. isolator bushing, front brakes and rotors and now will try changing the front struts.

Re: jeep death shake

Bushings on your front differential are worn out. Top one is a pain. Replace and keep on driving.

Re: jeep death shake

That was the first thing I tried after balancing the tires. The top one was toast. Unfortunately it made no difference.
