Key Fob stuck in ignition - won't start

I'm looking for some advice. I have a 2011 and it is currently very cold in Michigan. Here are the symptions:

-Jeep won't start- doesn't make a sound
-Battery is ok
-Ignition won't release the key fob. I use the fob as a key instead of the keyless start button
-Can't move it out of park position.

I'm wondering if this is a sensor problem or if something is frozen. Has anyone run into this?

If you think it's frozen, grab a blow dryer and blow it on the key/switch area for a bit and try to get it to come out.

Does the key turn in the ignition? If so, it's probably not frozen.

However, before trying that I'd say to press the brake pedal and slightly turn the wheel, which should release any ignition lock on the key. This should allow you to turn the key to the "off" position and slide it out.

***Thanks for your response. Yes, it turns freely in the ignition. It won't pull out even from the off position. I have tried the whole pressing the brake and trying to move the steering wheel to no avail. What I meant by frozen, is something with the shifter assembly that prevents a sensor from recognizing the vehicle is in park. I'm just guessing, but really have no idea. I only suspect that it had something to do with the cold since it was -8 degrees on Tuesday morning when it wouldn't start.

That means you probably have an issue with the shift interlock feature. I'm not positive on the WK, but on most vehicles the shift interlock is controlled by the brake switch and/or a fuse. Check the electric schematics for the fuse and also check if your brake switch is functioning.

Otherwise, you're left with needing some adjustment on the sensors on the shiftbox, which if I'm not mistaken is all one unit and is an expensive b*tch to replace.
