Re: leaking sunroof

Seems an easy do it yourself fix from the above info and even from the dealer receipt with what they did. I dont have a sunroof and had water leaking from my drivers pillar out the fastener snap cover. But the leak was caused by me removing my roof rails and plugging the holes with plastic panel fasteners and guess I didnt shoot enough sealant in the mounting holes first. The headliner is easy to remove after the rubber seals are pulled away, and the pillar comes right off after the fasteners are removed.

Re: leaking sunroof

Mine just started leaking. I took the headliner partially down and removed the driver's side drain tube. Blew it out but it's still dripping through the fastener cover in the "A" pillar. I'll try to get some pics when I remove the headliner again to see what I can do. The "Pan" that the tube is attached to is very shallow and not sealed to the roof. Water should not be getting in there if the sun roof is sealing correctly. I cleanad the seals and put Armor All on them but leak persists. When I get the chance, I'll try aligning it as per instructions above even though it looks like it closes properly.

Re: leaking sunroof

I took mine back twice to the dealership with that problem when it was still under warranty, Luckly, knock on wood, It hasnt happened since. I would get water leaking out the screw cap cover on the driver side pillar right by the hand grip.

Re: leaking sunroof

Well I tried the vent button trick. All it did was open and sit there so I guess nothing gained there. When I get a chance, I'll take down the headliner and see what I can see.

Yep, that's where mine leaks. Hard to pinpoint just where it's coming from though.

Re: leaking sunroof

I think I found the leak. Sorry, I'm dumb and didn't get any pics but I'll get some tomorrow except I'm not taking the headliner down again!
I lowered the headliner on the driver's side and ran a hose over the roof. I started at the front and the leak showed up almost right away. Not the sunroof or the roof rack. When you take the liner down, the roof has a second layer of sheet metal running across the windshield. That's where it was dripping, between the outer roof and inner piece. Weird, because there's nothing there on the outside but sheet metal! I couldn't figure it out. I looked at the trim around the windshield on the top and sides. The moulding, weatherstripping on the sides can be lifted away from the glass. There was crud built up under there right around the windshield seal. I cleaned it away and ran the water again. No leaks! I'll post pics of the spot I'm talking about tomorrow. I'm thinking there must be an opening in the sealant around the windshield though. I couldn't see anything obvious. Hard to see in there.

Re: leaking sunroof

Here's the pics, finally. The first one is of the headliner. The leak was dripping right above the circled area

This is the side moulding by the windshield

This is the moulding lifted up where the crud had accumulated. After I cleaned it out, no more leak

I'm going to check this area out and clean it a few times a year. That crud under there could cause rot too.

Re: leaking sunroof

Is the moulding easy to clip back in once removed?

Although I dont think this is the cause of my leak. Id like to clean it off at least and prevent any to arise from this area. I just tried mine own troubleshooting on my 20006 Grand CHerokee Overland with a leak for more than a month now from the A-Pillars. Jeep Service center did not fix ir correctly the first time, they only re-secured the weather strip above the windshield (which is already loose) and performed a TSB on some sort of gasket in the sunroof. Im diagnosing it to the drain on the left/right side of the fwd sunroof since I poured water slowly in each side and it drained fine on the left side, and very slow on the right side. The second time I poured it at a faster rate, and the water did in fact drip from the left A-pillar. Now my concern is where to take it as I dont trust the service center where I first took it.

Re: leaking sunroof

I didn't remove the trim. If you open the door first, you will be able to lift the side mouldings enough to get a rag under there and clean out the crud. I do this a few times a year now.
