Re: Left turn whining noise

Nevermind my last post. The noise is still there.
Anybody else? Any thoughts?
Meanwhile, I am planning to take it in for service on my next oil change and have them look at the front end.
Now, assuming they're going to find the issue as being say bushings, control arm, etc. What am I looking at as far as parts and labor costs? Anyone?
Thanks again !!

Re: Left turn whining noise

With what they charge for the lower control arms, you'd think they were made out of gold (about $450 a side, just for the parts). Dealerships do not carry replacement bushings.

If you go after market, you're looking at around $150 per side for the LCAs. You can also buy replacement bushings for ~$20. Lots of labour involved either way you go (including the particularly difficult to remove clevis bolt).

Upper control arms are a whole lot cheaper and easier to replace. Can't remember how much the parts where, but it was less than a couple of hours to do both sides taking my time.

To be honest though, the description of the sound your vehicle is making doesn't sound like worn out bushings to me. It sounds much more like the right wheel hub. I know you checked it for play, but it is possible that the hub will generate some noise before play is detectable using the grab and shake method. Bushings, control arms, etc., are all more likely to make clunks and pops than wawawa types of noises.

Had you had anyone check the wheel bearings on that side. Sounds almost as if a hub might be bad or have a bad bearing ?

Re: Left turn whining noise

I've got this same issue. I only notice it when I'm in a parking garage. Every time I make a hard left turn it sounds like it's whining or that the tire is rubbing. The tire doesn't show any abnormal signs of wear though. I try to make wider turns at slower speeds and sometimes it doesn't make a noise and if it does it's less pronounced. I've checked the power steering fluid because at first the sound made me think it was low on power steering fluid. The PS fluid level was fine.

I've got 167k miles on it and just want to get another year out of it. I am hoping it's not a major repair.

Re: Left turn whining noise

It could be brake related, but what you describe sounds like textbook wheel bearing, when you load the bearing it makes noise. With the sealed hub units it is not uncommon to actually not feel the movement in the hub. You CAN however feel it in the bearing when its in your hand.
